Fairyland
Studio It's
not what you think; a refreshing, Terry Gilliam-like reconstruction
of vintage graphics in the service of Fairyland and Squid-Headed
Babies.
Based
in Austin, Texas, Fairyland Studio offers a unique brand of
reconstructed vintage art, very much like Terry Gilliam's
animations back in the days of Monty Python's Flying Circus
- classic illustration and advertising art is snipped up,
recombined, and amusingly presented all over again in unexpected
contexts.
Chet Phillips
Illustration Great
original woodcut-style digital art with dogs, cats, Tikis,
and space monkeys.
Chet
Phillips is a commercial artist with an enviable client list
and a style that puts the ink in distinctive, or certainly
would, if there were just a K in that word.
These works are digital - but you'll
immediately think of hand-colored woodcut illustrations when
you see them. There's a skillful handling of line and tone
throughout the work. Here, in his online store, he's had a
chance to get his personal yayas out and all over the place.
Kristine
Cummins has a deft hand with watercolors in a strong but delicate
style whose bold geometric forms, softly shaded, at first
put me in mind of Tamara deLempicka's paintings; though on
reflection, I wondered why her gentler, more organic treatment
didn't make me think first of Georgia O'Keefe.
