"Dawn of a New Day" is a panoramic 3D rendering of a retro-futuristic scene - it's set in a hangar (or garage) in the Future That Never Was.

Like any garage, it's cluttered with the bits and pieces and odds and ends that haven't quite made the cut of daily life - along with an assortment of tools, appliances, and whatnot. There are some interesting bits stored away in there.

Rusty the Robot and his human companion are taking a brief look through the morning paper over a cup of coffee. Any minute now that Buck Rogers-style retro rocket is likely to get warmed up and taken out for a spin.

The title is taken from a posthumous Gershwin collaboration that was used as a theme song for the 1939 New York World's Fair - the Fair whose theme was "The World of Tomorrow".

I've spent quite a long time on this image and its characters, who should be showing up in other renderings as time goes on. The picture itself started as a 3D rendering but I've done some overpainting in Photoshop to refine and finish it.

The print is an on-demand, open edition reproduction of my digital painting. Its resolution is 300 DPI at a full size of 32 by 16 inches. There's a narrow border on the sides all around the image area. You can frame the print as is or matte it, if you like, to a different (standard) shape.
